VMware has introduced a new certification, VMware Certified Professional 6.5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP6.5-DCV), aimed at providing candidates with expertise in the latest version of its vSphere 6.5 virtualisation platform.
VMware vSphere 6.5 enables companies to accelerate their digital transformation to cloud computing. It delivers a simplified customer experience, comprehensive built-in security, and a universal applications platform to support all application types including containerised applications. There are new features in the vCenter Server Appliance, new REST-based APIs, an HTML5-based vSphere Client and virtual machine encryption.
These significant changes have resulted in the need for the new certification. And for those professionals who already have their VCP, this new VCP provides a new path and recertification opportunity.
There are three exams associated with this new certification:
- vSphere 6.5 Foundations
- VCP6.5-DCV elective exam
- VCP6.5-DCV delta exam
The certification tests candidates on their skills and abilities to install, configure, and manage vCenter Server, ESXi hosts, and virtual machines using the appropriate VMware tools.
In terms of the intended audience a candidate should have a minimum of approximately six months’ experience working with a vSphere implementation and more than one year of IT industry experience, as well as being capable of installing, configuring, monitoring, and managing a vSphere solution.
In addition they should be capable of deploying and configuring vSphere storage, networking, security, and compute resources as well as creating and administering vSphere virtual machines.
